Bullying management
It has long been recognised that early intervention is critical to improving learning and behaviour. By systematically recording incidents, outcomes and strategies, staff can quickly identify patterns of behaviour and determine potential resolutions. The rise in the number of incidents involving bullying in schools has become a major concern for schools. A key feature of the Behaviour Log is the ability to monitor effectively all aspects of bullying. The system gives staff easy access to a wide range of invaluable information including the specific detail relating to individual incidents, information on bullying trends, bullying ‘hot spots’ and a current overview of those students who are frequently involved in bullying, including the victims.
When any incident is logged onto the Behaviour Log, there is an option to indicate whether the incident was considered to be bullying. If the ‘bulling box’ is ticked, the system asks for the number of victims together with their names if known. This feature allows staff to monitor closely any individuals who are regularly involved in bullying. By using the ‘Advanced incident search’ feature, staff can examine specific criteria to establish exactly the nature, frequency and severity of the bullying and determine whether the bullying is across the whole school, a particular school year or tutor group or a single pupil.
The Behaviour Log facilitates effective communication between staff in schools and between individual schools and the Local Authority. By entering and monitoring strategies targeted at combating bullying, the Behaviour Log empowers staff and facilitates sharing ‘good practice’. With the feedback from the system, staff are able to determine how best to support and protect their pupils.
Reviewing data is fast and simple, with many views and charts available for analysis and summary. Data can also be downloaded in Excel format, providing schools with additional flexibility for further detailed analysis and the ability to import the data into other school systems.
In addition to providing information concerning the incidents and perpetrators of bullying, the Behaviour Log also produces data relating to the victims of bullying. This data helps to provide a focus for preventing bullying and supporting those pupils who are at greatest risk of being bullied.
